Creative Kids: Empowering Young Minds

Curriculum

At Creative Kids we focus on building a “family” atmosphere in which your children will live, work and play. By recreating the loving care and guidance that comes from yourselves, we aim to create a unique link with your child between home and nursery.

All babies and children are naturally curious and want to learn; therefore, everything they do is a learning experience, we help this along with carefully chosen activities to encourage the physical, intellectual, social and emotional progress of each individual.

We focus on building a “family” atmosphere

At the nursery we promote learning through play, and concentrate on the development of the “whole child”. It is our blueprint which tailors our skills and activities towards giving each child a well-balanced day.

For all children 3 months to 18 months

Our baby rooms are designed to cater for all children 3 months to 18 months. Our spacious rooms incorporate play areas, a changing room, a kitchens and separate cot rooms with viewing windows to assist with peaceful nap times.

Babies

Within our baby rooms our staff will work with your child to encourage development in many different areas. Along with Playtime and fun they will concentrate on weaning the children when they are ready and then progress towards solids and children learning to spoon feed themselves independently.

The children will be guided through the transition of Drinking from bottle to using beakers whilst holding it themselves. At creative kids we like to encourage meal times to be a happy sociable time, children will eat their meals at a table with their friends trying lots of delicious homemade healthy seasonal recipes from our on-site kitchens.

Your child’s physical requirements are also of utmost importance to us and our staff will see them through their many phases such as rolling over, sitting, crawling and walking. Our trained staff will be there every step of the way to nurture and guide them.

Children’s days are enriched with varied playtimes and structured activities to stimulate children’s development and encourage interaction.

Toddlers

We start to introduce more structure

As your child moves to the toddler room the staff will start to introduce more structure to their daily routine. Table top activities will be introduced where the children will have the opportunity to sit at a table with their peers and staff members to play with the toys.

The children will be encouraged with the support of the staff to start feeding themselves both their main meal and finger food. Open top cups will also be introduced at meal times with their closed beaker still being on offer during the day.

Circle time will be introduced

Circle time will be introduced, this is where the children will learn simple animal, primary colour and basic shape flashcards. Towards the end of the year in the toddler room they will begin self-recognition at both circle time and meal times. The toddler room will now have the freedom of the large fully equipped garden and be able to build on their confidence and risk taking with the support of their staff and peers. If parents feel their child is ready for potty training towards the end of the year then the staff will support both the child and parents through this transition.

Build on their confidence and communication skills

Your child will begin to recognise their name, numbers, shapes, colours and alphabet. There is time during the day for group stories, singing and flashcard activities, this is to help the children to build on their confidence and communication skills in small groups. The children will have access to different types of ICT equipment including our interactive table to help with hand and eye co –ordination, fine motor skills and all areas of development. Towards the end of the academic year the staff will liaise with the next room to support all children for a smooth transition onto their next journey.

2-3 Year Olds

We aim to build on your child’s independence.

In this room we will aim to build on your child’s independence and social skills with their peers and adults. We will also work closely with the parents/carer to support you and your child to start the potty training process.

The staff within the room will plan daily activities around the children’s interests and these will cover the areas of learning stated in the Early Years Foundation Stage. Children learn through play and this is encouraged by the different resources that are available, for example, construction toys, small world, role play, musical instruments and natural materials.

Pre-School

We take everything they have learnt over the last four years and expand.

In their last year at Creative Kids we take everything they have learnt over the last four years and expand on the skills they have already developed. We will build on their confidence and their ability to finish a task either independently or in a group.

Your child will be supported in learning the correct grip when holding a pencil, the formation of letters and numbers and writing and recognising all the letters of their own name. Children are encouraged to use scissors independently and safely and taught the correct way of handling them.

All children leave Creative Kids with the right skills

Meal times are a social time in which the children will collect their own cutlery and cup from the table. They are supported to use a knife and fork correctly and then when they have finished they will scrape their plate and put the cutlery in the washing up bowl, getting them ready for when they have school lunch. Towards the end of the year the staff will be talking to the children about moving on to big school. In our role play area the children will have the opportunity to try on different school uniforms and look at pictures and read social stories of schools within the local area. As a nursery we are confident that all children leave Creative Kids with the right skills, confidence and the ability to reach their full potential on their new journey to school.

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum

All nurseries in England are required to follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), this sets the standards for the learning, development and care of children from birth to 5 years old. I am sure that you will agree that all children are unique and keeping this in mind we use the EYFS framework to take every child’s qualities into account when planning their day.

There are seven areas within the learning and development section of the EYFS, these shape the educational programmes in our nurseries. Whilst all areas of learning and development are important and inter-connected, the framework splits the areas of learning into ‘Prime’ and ‘Specific’ areas.
